Bali - Island of the Gods

Bali maybe a great tourist resort destination but more importantly is it an example of a people living in harmony with the earth. Get away from the tourist strip of Kuta and the magic of Bali is there to observe, indulge or be part of. The Balinese people, most of whom are Hindu, live and breath their traditional culture and way of life. Island of the Gods and there are many of them are celebrated at the thousands of temples across the island. The living religion is strong and well in Bali. Children learn the traditional dances and music from a very early age, as part of the school curriculum. They practice in the evening with their iPhones beside them. There are villages of silver-smiths, wood and stone carvers, much of their output is for restoring and decoration of the temples. The rice terraces spill down the hill sides, the rich soil often producing two crops a year, all harvested by hand.  

 

Temple Festivals

Every day somewhere on the island of Bali there is a Temple Festival. 

 
 

Temple Blessing

The Hindu priest blesses the children and their families  in the temple grounds.

Jimboran Bay

Bounty of the sea, early morning on Jimboran beach the night's haul is carried up the beach to the waiting restaurants and the local house wives.

Rice Terraces

No land is wasted, the steep hill-sides are terraced and often two crops of rice can be harvested in the year.  

Traditional Dance

Traditional dance is an integral part of Balinese life. Children are taught from a very early age in the villages and dance academies.
