Thailand, the Kingdom of Siam
Thailand is on one hand the exotic orient of the pre-war writers, bars and joints in dim lanes to today's soaring skyscrapers, mass transit railways streaking above the streets and a population of nearly 68 million. The bars are still there, bigger and brighter than ever. Bangkok still floods regularly in the rainy season. The King is revered and the Government changes by coup d'etat or otherwise on a regular basis. Tourists flock to Thailand for its shopping and sightseeing, the beaches and resorts. It's history is amazing and the people are always smiling.
Sukhothai
Kingdom of Sukothai was one of the corner stones of Thailand's history. Today the ruins are preserved as the Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Inside are the remains of the royal palace and twenty six temples.
Buddhism
Buddhism probably appears in Thailand during the 3rd century BC. While there is total religious freedom in Thailand, Buddhism is the faith of 95 percent of the population.
